VIBURNUM
Without a doubt, Viburnum are more ornamental,
useful and versatile than any other group of flowering shrubs.
Some are grown for the specific traits of fragrance or flower
display, while others exhibit varied combinations of fall color,
fruit display, flowers, handsome foliage, growth habit and fragrance.
Generally, they are happy in moist, well-drained soils with
good organic content. They display the best flower, fruit and
fall color in full sun, however many will tolerate some shade.
Also some tend to produce better fruit displays when two or
more are grouped for pollination. Viburnum can be used as a
specimen in shrub or perennial borders, or they can be used
as a screen, windbreak, hedge, or for wildlife attraction.
The more compact viburnums, less than
5' in height; are best used as a low naturalized hedge or specimen.
They also fit well into a mixed border. The intermediate or
larger viburnum, are best used as a naturalized hedge, screen,
windbreak, mass or specimen. Some, like the Chicago Lustre or
Koreanspice Viburnum, are easily integrated with perennials
in a mixed border, as a backdrop. While, Blackhaw and Nannyberry
Viburnum are especially useful as screening or windbreaks. |
