GREEN VIEW NAMED ONE OF THE TOP 100 REVOLUTIONARY GARDEN CENTERS
Today’s Garden Center
recognized Green View Companies as one of the Top 100 Revolutionary
Garden Centers in the United States. The magazine described its chosen
Top 100 as “the most progressive and innovative independent garden
centers of 2008.”
Today’s Garden Center
specially noted Green View’s education reimbursement for employees, as
well as its presence in television guest spots, newspaper columns and
at speaking engagements.
The
Revolutionary 100 are chosen based on surveys that contained questions
about a variety of topics, including customer service practices,
employee training programs and community involvement. The magazine then
awarded points to each answer to create a final score for each garden
center.

GREEN VIEW NURSERY HORTICULTURIST NAMED ICN PRO OF THE YEAR
Harry
Lewis, Garden Center Manager of Green View Nursery's Springfield
branch, has been named ICN (Illinois Certified Nursery) Pro of the
Year, a top industry award recognizing the best in the industry.
A certified ICN Pro since September of 1988, Harry is a 1978 graduate
of the University of Illinois where he received a Bachelors of Science
in Ornamental Horticulture. Working in the Green Industry for nearly 30
years, he is also an adjunct instructor at Lincoln Land Community
College where he promotes the INA (Illinois Nurserymen's Association).
Lewis has participated in the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, and has
been a featured speaker at the Springfield Civic Garden Club and
Springfield Illinois Bedding Plant School. He has presented numerous
seminars at Green View over the years, and has written horticultural
articles that have been published in Chatham Library Programs and the
American Nurseryman Magazine. Lewis has also completed numerous
television and newspaper interviews pertaining to horticulture that has
garnered him a following of home gardeners.
Lisa
Hoerr-Grandstaff of Green View Companies nominated Lewis for the award,
emphasizing Harry's extensive knowledge, education, involvement in the
Green Industry and commitment to the INA. She notes, "Harry's passion
for the industry has inspired countless students, customers, fellow
professionals, Green View associates and the gardening public. His calm
demeanor and practical advice make it a pleasure for others to work
with him."
According to the INA, the
ICN Pro Program was developed to upgrade the retail nursery industry
through the improvement and maintenance of the skills and knowledge of
its employees and owners. There are currently two types of
certification available - Woody and Perennial. Professionals may become
certified in one or both types. Lewis is certified in both.

GREEN VIEW COMPANIES
IS CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SERVICE
Green View Companies is celebrating their
50th Anniversary this year. Green View is a family owned business
founded in Peoria, Illinois, in the year 1955 by Peter W. Hoerr. The
company originated as "Peter W. Hoerr Trucking and Landscaping".
In 1958, the name changed to "Peoria Landscaping Company".
Peter believed, "The customer is always right and give them more
then they expect." These principles are still the cornerstone
of Green View today.
Green View is made of three separate corporations. The first is Green
View Landscaping Co., which encompasses the landscape contracting
operations. Green View Nursery, Inc. is the growing operations and
retail garden centers. Lastly, Green View Design Group, Inc. is the
professional arm of the company where design and architectural services
originate.
Over the years, Green View added five locations throughout central
and northern Illinois and now employs over 350 people. They have offices
in Peoria/Dunlap, Normal/Bloomington, Champaign/Urbana, Springfield,
and Oswego (Chicago Metro), which provide landscape services and retail
garden centers. Growing operations are located in Dunlap and Low point,
Illinois, and consists of 730 acres of sod, tree and container production.
Green View Companies is a multifaceted
firm throughout the state of Illinois with landscape design/build,
installation, maintenance, production facilities and five retail centers.
In 2005, Green View won 3 National ALCA Awards of Distinction for
two Bloomington Residences and an Award of Merit for a Springfield
Residence.
Green View's Bloomington and Springfield locations have been awarded
ALCA, Associated Landscape Contractors of America, Award's of Distinction
for the Reid Residence in Bloomington, Illinois and the Jacob Residence
in Bloomington, Illinois: as well as an ALCA Award of Merit for the
Kanoski Residence in Springfield, Illinois. Green View is a recipient
of ALCA's 36th Annual Awards Program; this is an honor to be selected.Green
View has been receiving awards for over 10 years. Recipients of this
award include very selected projects in the United States.
Green View Employee Earns Professional
Certification
Champaign, IL-Steve Green of Green View recently demonstrated professional
competency by successfully completing the Certified Arborist examination
administered through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)
and the local Chapter of the ISA.
The International Society of Arboriculture is a scientific and educational
organization devoted to the dissemination of information in the care
and preservation of shade and ornamental trees.
ISA's Certification Program is designed to promote the professional
development of those involved in the field of arboriculture or tree
care. When contracting for your tree care needs, contact individuals
who are certified through this voluntary program.

Green View is the largest employer of Illinois Certified Nurserymen
in the state. Individuals qualify to be an ICN Professional by completing
a three-hour/three-part exam covering major areas such as retail,
plant care, pesticides, landscape design and plant identification.
Only 300 men and women hold the ICN Pro designation in the green
industry in Illinois.
